Keothavong reaches third round
British number one Anne Keothavong shocked 25th seed Francesca Schiavone to reach the third round of the US Open tennis.
Keothavong became the first British woman to reach the third round of the competition since 1991 by beating the Italian 6-2 3-6 6-4.
Keothavong said: "Before the match I really believed I had a chance to win.
"I knew if I could hang in there and just get stuck in then I'd be in with a chance. I came away with the win so I'm pretty pleased with that.
"Schiavone is ranked a lot higher than me and she's a seeded player and I wanted to go out there and just give it my best shot."
Keothavong will face the Olympic champion Elena Dementieva in the third round.
She said: "She's someone I've never played against before. I've practised with her in the past, and it will definitely be another tough match for me.
"But I've got nothing to lose. I feel confident, I feel fit, and, you know, who knows?"
