Fireman killed in Lyon gas explosion

A gas explosion in the French city of Lyon has killed a fireman and left dozens injured.
The blast took place on a pavement in a busy neighbourhood where roadworks were being carried out, and set fire to an adjacent building.

Nearby buildings had to be evacuated and the street was strewn with debris.
At least 26 people have been injured, the city's mayor Gerard Collomb said.
One of a team of fireman called to the scene after a gas leak was detected was seriously injured in the blast and later died in hospital, he added.
Passers-by and gas workers were also among the injured.
