Pop queen Mariah Carey has visited Britain to launch herself as the face of London-inspired fashion brand Pinko.

The 36-year-old Grammy award-winning singer wore a pair of gold stitched jeans specially designed for her by the Italian-label worth an estimated £3,000.

"I've visited Italy and any time I go shopping there I end up in a Pinko store" - Mariah Carey

Although the exact figure for Mariah's deal with Pinko has not been revealed, a spokeswoman said: "It's a very, very big deal."

Mariah, who was met by a crowd of paparazzi and fans outside the Pinko store in Knightsbridge, London, said: "It is really exciting. I have visited Pinko stores when I've visited Italy and any time I go shopping there I end up in a Pinko store."

The curvaceous singer, who flew in from filming the independent movie Tennessee in New Mexico, also had something to add to the heated Size Zero debate.

"I don't think anyone should be banned from anything. There should not be a precedent. That cannot work if you are naturally a Size Zero," she said.

"As long as it's not leading people to do harmful things to themselves to achieve that, then it's fine."

Mariah follows in the footsteps of supermodels Elle Macpherson, Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell who have also been faces for the fashion house.

The new campaign, which will be featured in 750 stores worldwide, was shot by renowned photographer Michelangelo Di Battista.
