Boxer Amir Khan has denied speeding at twice the legal limit.

Khan, 20, is accused of driving at 140mph in his BMW M6 convertible on the M62 motorway near Rochdale, last New Year's Eve.

Khan, of Lostock, near Bolton, pleaded not guilty via a letter from his solicitor.

He did not attend the hearing at Rochdale Magistrates' Court and the case was adjourned to May 21.

The young boxer shot to fame when he won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

He has since turned professional and remains unbeaten in the ring as a pro.
