Madonna has revealed she had to share "diva space" when collaborating on her new single 4 Minutes.

The queen of pop may be just short of her 50th birthday but that hasn't stopped her from showcasing her raunchy side in her new video with Justin Timberlake.

"I'm used to being the diva in the room and the person that I'm with is much more of a support system for me. So I had to adjust to sharing diva space" - Madonna

The star, who worked with JT and super producers Timbaland and Pharell on her latest album Hard Candy, revealed it was tough sharing the spotlight with other stars.

She said: "There was a little bit of a different energy working with other performers. I'm used to being the diva in the room and the person that I'm with is much more of a support system for me. So I had to adjust to sharing diva space."

Timbaland has described Madonna's 11th studio effort as a blend of her 1983 hit Holiday with a fresh R'n'B groove.

The single is out on April 21 and Hard Candy hits the shelves at the end of the month.
