The "Running of the Brides" event has taken place in Boston, where hundreds of brides-to-be battle it out for discounted wedding gowns.

The extravaganza is held at Filene's Basement every year, and women from all over the country queue from the early hours of the morning for a chance to get their hands on one of more than two and a half thousand dresses up for sale.

"There's nothing better than sorority sisters getting together to battle people for a wedding gown" - Rebecca Thomason

Shopper Sharon Savage said: "My daughter's getting married next year and this is a fantastic event, we're looking forward to this."

Fellow bargain-hunter Rebecca Thomason said: "There's nothing better than sorority sisters getting together to battle people for a wedding gown."

Filene's Basement's Bridal Gown Sale is often referred to as the "Running of the Brides" because once the store opens, the shoppers run at full speed, like the crowds at the famous "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain.
