A teenage boy has died and three others injured after the car they were travelling in flipped onto its side and crashed.

The boy, from Maltby, South Yorkshire, was one of seven teenagers in the orange Citroen C3 when it overturned on Ashton Lane, Braithwell, near Rotherham just before 2am.

Police said the six other passengers, four males and two females, all aged between 14 and 18, were all arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The boy, who has not yet been named, died at the scene of head injuries, police said.

Three of the arrested youngsters, two males and one female, were taken to Rotherham General Hospital where they were treated for non life threatening injuries.

Police said no other vehicle was involved in the crash.
