The star is expected to take on the role of a young man who has an erotic fixation with horses, in a play that has received rave reviews from many critics.

The move comes after Jesse recently checked himself into a rehab centre for alcohol abuse last month.

News of Metcalfe's rehab stint came after a report that he had indulged in four days of partying in Hollywood.

He is currently dating Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle.
