Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has blamed the African Nations Cup for the bizarre calf injury picked up by defender Kolo Toure.

Toure was hurt when he blocked a shot from Alexandre Pato in the 0-0 draw with Milan in the Champions League.

"The injury was a consequence of the African Nations Cup" - Arsene Wenger

He will be out of action for at least three weeks and Wenger is convinced the injury would have been avoided if Toure had not spent three weeks in Ghana playing for Ivory Coast.

Wenger said: "Kolo has a calf injury and from what I can see he will be out for at least three to four weeks.

"The injury was a consequence of the African Nations Cup."

Arsenal have fond memories of playing in Milan as they beat Inter 5-1 five years ago.
