Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has warned "we're only halfway there" after securing a 2-0 lead over Werder Bremen at Ibrox.

Rangers were the only British team to taste victory during the UEFA Cup matches on Thursday night, as Everton were defeated 2-0 by Fiorentina, Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to PSV Eindhoven and Bolton drew 1-1 with Sporting Lisbon.

Everton captain Phil Neville admitted his team did not do themselves justice.

They were undone by two second-half strikes from Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Riccardo Montolivo.

Spurs coach Juande Ramos had billed the clash with PSV Eindhoven as the barometer of whether his side could win the UEFA Cup.

As such it looks like the Dutch champions are more likely to be at Eastlands in May.

And Bolton will have to up their game to continue their European adventure: the odds are now stacked in favour of Sporting Lisbon after Simon Vukcevic scored a stunning equaliser.
