A gunman who said he was going to "kill all black people" has been found guilty on three counts of attempted murder.

Former boxer John Laidlaw, 24, went on a shooting spree in north London last May, firing at two black men just weeks after being convicted of a violent race attack.

"These offences, certainly the first incident, seem to be almost completely random" - Judge Samuel Wiggs

Judge Samuel Wiggs warned Laidlaw that he faced an indeterminate jail sentence for the protection of the public.

One of his victims, father-of-three Abu Kamara, was left fighting for his life and now has a bullet permanently lodged in the back of his throat.

Half-an-hour after shooting Mr Kamara in Upper Street, Islington, Laidlaw shot at Evans Baptiste, 22, at Finsbury Park Tube station.

But the bullet brushed past him and struck Emma Sheridan, 26, a white Irish woman.

Ms Sheridan was aided at the scene by a passing medical student who removed the bullet from her back. She was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Following a two-week trial Laidlaw was found guilty by an Old Bailey jury on three counts of attempted murder and two firearms charges.

The judge told him: "These offences, certainly the first incident, seem to be almost completely random."
