A pilot and his two passengers had a lucky escape when their small plane crashed in California.

The twin engine Piper Seneca was approaching Cable Airport, about 45 miles east of Los Angeles, when it crashed into three houses in Upland.

The US aviation authorities said the pilot reported engine problems on his approach to Cable Airport.
