South Africa force draw

England have drawn the first Test against South Africa at Lord's after a spirited innings by the tourists.

South Africa appeared to heading for defeat when they were made to follow on after being bowled out for 247.

Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie scored centuries to help South Africa force a draw and they eclipsed England's first-innings lead of 346 for the loss of just two wickets.

When play was called off for bad light South Africa were 393 for three in their second innings.

McKenzie batted more than nine hours for his 138 and he was joined on the honours board by Hashim Amla, who was unbeaten on 104.
