New Zealand stand firm
New Zealand's Ross Taylor scored a maiden test century to guide the home side to 387 for six at lunch on the second day of the first test against England.
New Zealand had resumed on 282 for six after failing to fully exploit a flat pitch on the first day.
But England's hopes of putting pressure on the Kiwis were dashed.
Captain Daniel Vettori demonstrated his effectiveness at number eight with an unbeaten 47.
He and Taylor helped add 105 runs in 29 overs during the morning, hitting 15 boundaries to put on an impressive total.
Ryan Sidebottom, who began the day with two for 39 off 21 overs, was the best of the England bowlers.
He went into the break with figures of two for 75 off 30 overs.
