Cream of the crop out for Hairspray

If you're going to make a musical you might as well call on the cream of the crop and that's exactly what the makers of new film Hairspray have done.

John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah and a host of other Hollywood hotshots star in the musical.

Hairspray follows Tracy Turnblad who dreams of landing a job on a TV dance show

Based on the 80s movie and Broadway show of the same name, Hairspray follows Tracy Turnblad who dreams of landing a job on a TV dance show.

Travolta dresses up as a member of the opposite sex to play Tracy's mum Edna, ending his 30-year self-imposed ban on musicals.

And Freddie Prinze Jr reckons Travolta in drag has got to be seen, describing the final effect as "pretty damn good".

Hairspray is out on July 20.
