Paris Hilton is doing well after her first night in solitary confinement at a Los Angeles prison according to her lawyer.

The 26-year-old heiress is serving 23 days imprisonment at the Century Regional Detention Facility for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

"The one hour a day that she's out she's allowed to be in the module, take a shower, and talk on the phone, but she's in isolation for 23 out of 24 hours a day and ask yourself for what?"

Lawyer Richard A. Hutton said of his client: "She is in a cell with less than a hundred square feet, she is in that cell 23 out of 24 hours a day, in solitary confinement.

"The one hour a day that she's out she's allowed to be in the module, take a shower, and talk on the phone, but she's in isolation for 23 out of 24 hours a day and ask yourself for what?

"For driving on a suspended licence, as a probation violation."

Mr Hutton said that Hilton was using her spell inside to reflect on her life, to see how she could "make the world better" and change the attitudes that exist about her.

Hutton added: "She is a wonderful young lady who is taking care of business and we're very proud of her."
