A bed race in Germany has celebrated its 20th anniversary in weird and wonderful fashion.

The entrants at the event in Fredersdorf were far from reaching Formula One speeds, but their efforts provided plenty of entertainment for the 5,000-strong crowd.

Dressed as storks, playboy bunnies and chickens, the competitors had to make it around the circuit within nine minutes.

Some of the creations seemed to have little to do with the bed theme, but fulfilled the requirement that they be "fast, crazy and original".
