The battle for a place at the Olympic Games appears to be inspiring Dwain Chambers to new heights.

The sprinter clocked 10.05 seconds in the 100 metres in Sofia, to become the fastest Briton on the track so far this year.

"I was knackered but I do need as many races as possible" - Dwain Chambers

Chambers is expected to begin legal proceedings this week in a bid to overturn his lifetime ban from the Great Britain Olympic team because he has served a drugs suspension.

At the weekend he clocked 10.06 seconds in Germany and he is rapidly emerging as Britain's best sprinter days before the Olympic trials are held.

Chambers said: "I only got an invite to compete after a late last-minute call and my legs were sore after those races in Germany. I actually thought after coming into the race with such short notice and more travelling, I would have been slower.

"Quite frankly, I was knackered but I do need as many races as possible. This is more progress and I feel I'm getting there."
