Girl, 14, pleads guilty to sister's manslaughter

A 14-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her 16-year-old sister following an argument at their home.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied a charge of murder and will now face a trial.

She is accused of fatally stabbing her older sister with a knife at their home in the Ovenden area of Halifax, West Yorkshire, on March 26.

Police and paramedics were called to the address at around 11pm and two teenage girls, both with stab wounds, were found.

They were taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital where the 16-year-old died in the early hours of the following morning.

The younger sister was released from hospital and taken to a police station where she was later charged with murder.

She pleaded not guilty at a hearing on May 30 and was remanded into the care of the local authority.
