Police think it is unlikely that serial killer Steve Wright murdered Suzy Lamplugh, it has emerged.

Wright, 50, of Ipswich, was found guilty in February of murdering five prostitutes whose bodies were discovered close to the Suffolk town over a ten-day period in December 2006.

Following the conviction, detectives investigating the disappearance of estate agent Miss Lamplugh looked into Wright's possible involvement.

But a Metropolitan Police spokesman has now said: "This is not a strong line of inquiry."

Miss Lamplugh worked on the QE2 in the 1980s - at the same time as Wright. He was a steward and she was a beautician.

She was 25 when she disappeared in 1986 after leaving her offices in Fulham, west London, to meet a Mr Kipper.

Her body has never been found but she was officially declared dead in 1994.

Wright was handed a whole life sentence for the Suffolk murders but has since applied for permission to appeal.
