Police threaten teenager with party bill

An Australian teenager could face a huge fine for throwing a party while his family were on holiday.

More than 500 people turned up at 16-year-old Corey Delaney's house in Melbourne and police were called when neighbours complained about the noise.

Some of the revellers went on a rampage and police cars were pelted with glass bottles while nearby houses and gardens were vandalised.

No one was arrested but at least 30 officers, a helicopter and the dog squad were needed to break the party up and the police say Corey could be made to foot their bill.

Victoria state Police Commissioner Christine Nixon admitted it will be difficult to prove exactly who caused the estimated £8,000 of damage.

She said: "He needs to learn a lesson and I think, one way or another, we'll do that."

Corey's mother, Jo Delaney, who was on holiday in the state of Queensland, said: "We're a good family. I'm just devastated and horrified that this has actually occurred.

"Obviously he's very scared of the consequences that we're going to bring upon him."

Corey's father Steve added: "He's a fairly independent young sort of fella, socially very active, got a lot of friends

"It's just destroyed our faith in him. We just don't know what to do as parents."
