More body parts belonging to murdered British teenager Cara Burke have been found in Brazil.

Police found the forearms and left leg of the 17-year-old, who was dismembered and stuffed in a suitcase, along the banks of a remote river near the central city of Goiania.

Police searching in the same area later found her forearms and head

A labourer walking in the area found the leg a week after Miss Burke's torso was discovered in a suitcase near a different river.

Police searching in the same area later found her forearms and head. Police inspector Carlos Raimundo Batista said that authorities were confident the body parts were Miss Burke's.

Police said 20-year-old Mohammed D'Ali Carvalho dos Santos has confessed that he dumped Cara's head and limbs in the river.

Police have said Santos murdered the teenager, from Southfields, south-west London, last Saturday because she threatened to tell his family that he was addicted to cocaine and dealing the drug.

Police said Miss Burke, who arrived in Brazil about three months ago, met Santos in London and that they were a couple until a few weeks ago.

But the teenager's family have insisted that was not the case.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman could only confirm the death of a British girl, adding that her next of kin had been informed and it was providing consular assistance to the family.
