Man shot dead in Birmingham
A 24-year-old man has been shot dead in Birmingham, West Midlands Police have said.
The man, who has not been named, was shot at 10.15pm on Saturday in Hockley Close in Newtown, Birmingham.
He was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Hockley Close has been closed for police investigations and officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
It is the third fatal shooting in the Newtown area in less than a year.
On March 18 Nehemiah Bryce, aged 27, of Winson Green, was shot in Rodway Close, Newtown, just a few hundred yards from the scene of last night's shooting.
On December 23 last year Assar Joseph Mohammed Tomlinson was shot dead during a row outside the King Of The Road pub in Hospital Street, Newtown.
In another separate incident nearby, on April 1 this year a teenager and another man were injured when they were shot inside City Internet Coffee and Barber Shop in nearby Great Hampton Row.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they received a call at 10.13pm.
They sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene. The man was taken to City Hospital where he later died, a spokesman said.
He added: "Paramedics from the response vehicle travelled with the ambulance crew and provided additional assistance while the man was treated on route to hospital.
"But unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, they were unable to save him."
