Hollywood director Steven Spielberg will have to hold out for another year before getting his hands on a Golden Globe award.

The famous filmmaker was lined up to receive the prestigious Cecil B DeMille accolade for his outstanding contribution to cinema at the glitzy event.

But the star-studded ceremony has been axed in favour of an hour-long press conference due to the Hollywood writers' strike.

The strike is in its third month with about 10,500 members of The Writers Guild of America campaigning over the pay they receive for work distributed over the internet.

Globe winners will now be announced at a hour-long press conference instead of making their traditonal appearance on the red carpet.

So it looks like the Transformers director will have to wait till next year before he can add the gold statuette to his awards collection.
