Tony Blair has taken a part-time job with one of Wall Street's biggest banks.

The former prime minister will be a part-time adviser to JP Morgan, where he is expected to provide political and strategic advice and take part in some client events.

Mr Blair refused to disclose how much he will be paid by the bank but industry sources have said he is likely to make half a million pounds.

He also said he would probably accept "a small handful" of similar appointments with other companies, saying: "I have always been interested in commerce and the impact of globalisation."

Apparently, a personal phone call from JP Morgan chief executive Jamie Dimon helped to seal the deal.

Mr Dimon said: "There are only a handful of people in the world who have the knowledge and relationships that he has."
