Keira Knightley and Kylie Minogue have scooped top honours at the Elle Style Awards.

Knightley made up for her Bafta disappointment by scooping the best actress prize, while Atonement co-star James McAvoy was named best actor. Minogue meanwhile, was named Woman of the Year.

"This award will take pride of place in my apartment" - Kylie Minogue

Little Britain star David Walliams, who presented Kylie with the award, hailed her triumphant comeback from breast cancer.

He said: "She came back fighting fit and hasn't stopped since. She personifies courage, determination, beauty and style. She went back on tour and I've been to see her four times - does that make me gay?"

Accepting the honour, Minogue told the audience: "It's amazing to be here. I'm not exactly sure what I've done to deserve this, because I get to do something that I love. This award will take pride of place in my apartment."

Hollywood starlet Kate Hudson was crowned Elle Style Icon for her "distinctive and kooky" fashion sense.

In the TV categories, presenter Kelly Osbourne and Skins star Nicholas Hoult took the prizes. There were also honours for model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn and singer Kate Nash.

The glamorous awards ceremony was held at the Westway in Notting Hill, west London.
