Strictly Come Dancing winner, Alesha Dixon says the show helped her come out of a long depression.

Alesha says last Christmas was a difficult time in her life and described it as a real low point.

"Anyone who knows me knows that my music career and marriage were the most important things. And I lost them within two weeks of each other" - Alesha Dixon

Last year the singer had to contend with the breakdown of her marriage to Harvey from So Solid Crew and she also left her record company, Polydor, following poor sales of her solo singles.

She said: "Anyone who knows me knows that my music career and marriage were the most important things. And I lost them within two weeks of each other."

However the champion dancer decided she needed to turn her life around and agreeing to take part in Strictly Come Dancing was part of that decision.

Alesha was aprehensive at first, fearing the music industry would look down on her but decided to go for it as she was eager to learn how to dance.

On Saturday night more than 11 million viewers watched her beat EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo.

Following her victory and her aclaimed dancing on the series she is now a household name and it is expected she will back in the charts before long.
