Uefa president Michel Platini is convinced that the Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan will pass off in Athens on May 23 without any crowd trouble.

It will be the second time in three years that the two sides have gone head-to-head in the final of European club football's most prestigious competition.

"I am convinced that both Liverpool and Milan fans will contribute to making the Athens final a landmark in festive behaviour" - Michel Platini

Liverpool's triumph over Carlo Ancelotti's Rossoneri in Istanbul in 2005 passed off without any trouble as Rafael Benitez's men completed one of the greatest comebacks ever.

Platini, who became the most powerful man in European football earlier this year, said: "I am convinced that both Liverpool and Milan fans will contribute to making the Athens final a landmark in festive behaviour.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and praise the fans who have attended the semi-finals for creating such a wonderful atmosphere at the matches.

"They have contributed in a positive manner to making the semi-finals such an exciting spectacle."
