A woman has told a court of her "shock and embarrassment" at being flashed at by a man she later identified as a senior judge.

Lord Justice Stephen Richards, 56, who sits in the Court of Appeal, is on trial facing two counts of exposure.

"For inexplicable reasons Sir Stephen took the risk of behaving in this manner on two separate occasions on a crowded commuter train" - Peter Wright

The woman told London's Westminster Magistrates' Court Sir Stephen exposed himself to her on two separate occasions on a train between Wimbledon and Waterloo on October 16 and 24 last year.

She said on the first occasion she glanced down at the bottom of her newspaper and noticed the "very kind looking" gentleman had exposed himself.

She initially thought it was an accident but when it happened again, eight days later, she reported it to police but only after photographing the man at Waterloo station on her mobile phone.

Sir Stephen, who denies the charges, was arrested after the woman pointed him out to a police officer who accompanied her on her train journey.

Peter Wright QC prosecuting said: "For inexplicable reasons Sir Stephen took the risk of behaving in this manner on two separate occasions on a crowded commuter train, behaving like this to a young female."
