Andrew Flintoff's comeback is going to plan, according to Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson.

The 29-year-old talismanic all-rounder scored 36 for his county in their County Championship match against Sussex.

"It was always the plan for him to do some bowling during the course of this week. He has done a little bit of bowling in the nets, and four overs is not a heavy workload" - Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson

He then was able to bowl four overs, much to the surprise of those watching at the Aigburth ground.

Watkinson said: "What he has done is pretty much in accordance to his programme with (physiotherapist) Dave Roberts. He came through it fine.

"It was always the plan for him to do some bowling during the course of this week. He has done a little bit of bowling in the nets, and four overs is not a heavy workload.

"He just looked in good rhythm, he wasn't pinning his ears back and giving it the full whack, but he looked very smooth... It will be left to us to make sure that he has the right workload building up to 100 per cent."

Flintoff is expected to play again in Saturday's Twenty20 Cup finals day, which starts for Lancashire with a semi-final against Gloucestershire at Edgbaston in the morning.
