Fernando Alonso took advantage of Felipe Massa's mistakes to win the first-ever Grand Prix in the dark.

The former world champion won under the floodlights for Renault on the new street circuit in Singapore after Massa squandered pole position and a comfortable lead.

"I think I need a couple of days to realise we have won a race" - Fernando Alonso

The Brazilian drove away from a pit stop with the fuel hose still attached to his car and had to wait for his team mechanics to free the nozzle further down the pit lane.

Massa's problems helped Lewis Hamilton extend his lead at the top of the world championship to seven points with a third place finish behind Nico Rosberg.

Alonso said: "It was fantastic. I can't believe it and I think I need a couple of days to realise we have won a race."

Reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen picked up four points for finishing fifth.

David Coulthard finished seventh and picks up two points.
