Car smashed into Glasgow Airport
A blazing car has been crashed into the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport.
A Jeep Cherokee driven by two men of Asian appearance was rammed into the front of the airport.
One of the men then emerged from the car on fire and was restrained and put out with fire extinguishers. One man of the men who was badly burned was taken to hospital whilst the other was arrested by police.
But the Paisley hospital where a one of the suspect's was being treated had to be evacuated after a suspect device was found on him, police said.
Chief Constable Rae said: "When he was being treated at the hospital, a suspect device was found at the hospital, and as a consequence of that the hospital was partly evacuated until this device was removed and put into a safe area."
The incident came after two car bomb attacks were foiled in central London on Friday.
Mr Rae said that the Glasgow incident was being treated as a terrorist attack and was being linked with the attempted car bombs in London.
Emergency services are on the scene and roads around the airport have been shut off with flights in and out of Glasgow suspended until further notice.
A police spokeswoman said: "Strathclyde Police would like to reassure the public that it is unknown at present if this is connected with the incidents in London as inquiries are at an early stage."
She added: "However, we would ask the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police."
An eyewitness, Fiona Tardy said: "I was standing next to departures, I heard a great big massive bang, and then all the folk from departures were running through arrivals.
"A Land Rover or jeep had driven into the departure lounge. It was on fire, and every now and again there was a bang coming off it," she added.
Passengers are being advised not to travel to the airport until further notice, as all flight are suspended.
Meanwhile, police closed Liverpool's John Lennon Airport until further notice following the suspected terrorist attack in Glasgow.
