Portuguese police are to make a formal request to re-interview the parents of Madeleine McCann, it has been reported.

A senior police official has told the media that they are preparing an application to a British court to re-interview Kate and Gerry McCann and the seven friends who dined with them at a tapas restaurant the night their daughter disappeared.

Experts say any re-interview of Kate and Gerry McCann will have to be conducted by British police with Portugese officers present

Portuguese forensic scientists travelled to the UK and met with their British counterparts on Thursday to discuss DNA samples examined in the investigation.

They have since returned to Portugal, but it seems they may already be planning a return trip.

Madeleine vanished from a holiday resort on the Algarve on May 3, and her parents were named as formal suspects in the case on September 7.

They say they are innocent and have launched a high-profile campaign to clear their names and find their four-year-old daughter.

Experts say any re-interview of the McCanns will have to be conducted by British police with Portugese officers present.
