And the rising cost of oil is predicted to increase the cost of flights by a further £250.

At the current rate of increase, a family holiday for a fortnight next summer will cost more than £2,500.

The Tory leader David Cameron has decided to take his summer holiday in the UK this year.

And many British holidaymakers may be tempted to do the same.
