South Africa batsmen Ashwell Prince and AB De Villiers could put the second Test out of England's reach at Headingley.
Prince reached 134 not out in a 179-run partnership with De Villiers after a tiring day for England's bowlers.

New boy Darren Pattinson claimed the only wicket of the day when he trapped Hashim Amla lbw for 38.
But even that looked fortunate, because replays suggested the ball would have missed leg stump.
South Africa were 322 for four at the close, with a healthy lead of 119 runs.
De Villiers will resume on 70 not out.
