Updated 14.50 Wed Mar 19 2008

Britain's biggest planetarium opens to the public on Friday, giving visitors a tour of the cosmic world and beyond.

It is promising state of the art technology and views of the far reaches of the universe that will take in black holes and speeding comets.

Jenny Shipway says the planetarium is very realistic: "We have a map of the whole observed universe. This is based on knowledge we have from Nasa.

"It's important to get kids interested in science. Most kids love space and if we get them in here we can make explosions, get them to jump out of their seats.

"We have our own show, Neighbourhood Earth, which is based on the experience of standing outside your own home, looking at the night sky."

The doors to the INTECH planetarium at Winchester will be open to the public from March 21.
