De Menezes officers face no action
Eleven police officers involved in the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes will not face disciplinary action - a decision that has left the Brazilian's family "gravely disappointed".
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said the officers will not face a tribunal but one, a surveillance officer, will be given "management advice" in relation to action he took after the incident.
It added that no decision has been taken on four other senior officers.
Mr de Menezes, 27, was shot dead at Stockwell Tube station in July 2005 after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.
The Metropolitan Police welcomed the IPCC decision and added: "We have apologised publicly and in private to them and we would again like to take this opportunity to say sorry for this tragedy".
A spokeswoman for the de Menezes family said they are "gravely disappointed". She added: "In our experience it is highly unusual for such decisions to be made prior to the conclusion of any criminal and inquest proceedings."
She continued: "We can see no advantage in making this early announcement, other than to provide relief to the officers facing potential disciplinary charges."
The de Menezes family said there are grounds to support gross negligence manslaughter criminal charges against the four senior officers.
