Former Carry On star Barbara Windsor is set to turn 70.

The youthful larger than life star who started out in the entertainment biz as a teenager - reaches the milestone age on Monday.

Between 1964 and 1977 she starred in ten movies in the series - based on a mix of puns, double entendres and naughty post card humour

The cockney charmer led a colourful private life too. She was romantically linked to Carry on co-star Sid James and gangster Reggie Kray.

After a difficult period where the star nearly quit acting - in 1994 Eastenders came calling.

Loved for her role as pub landlady Peggy in the BBC show in 1999 she won Best Actress at the British soap awards.

Since then the charismatic star has brought out a warts an all autobiography and been awarded an MBE.
