England must win the final one-day match against New Zealand to draw the series after a thrilling tie in Napier.

Phil Mustard was England's top scorer with 83 in a total of 340 for seven, but the Kiwis appeared to be on course for victory when opener Brendon McCullum scored 58 from 65 balls in a 70-run partnership with Jesse Ryder.

"With six or seven overs to go we were pretty much dead and buried" - Paul Collingwood

Jamie How scored 139 off 116 balls before he was run out and New Zealand needed seven off the final over to win, but Daniel Vettori could only manage a leg-bye single off the final ball to leave the match tied.

England captain Paul Collingwood said: "With six or seven overs to go we were pretty much dead and buried.

"How's innings was fantastic, they had wickets in hand at the end and we were looking down the barrel so I think the boys will be pretty pleased with getting a tie out of that after being in that position.

"I think we stepped it up a gear in the last six or seven overs and when the pressure was really on we showed our character today and we dragged something out of the game that we really didn't look like getting."

New Zealand lead the five-match series 2-1 with one match to play in Christchurch.
