Dead British serviceman named
A British soldier who died after an attack in southern Iraq on Monday has been named as Rifleman Aaron Lincoln, of the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles.
He was fired on in the Al Ashar district of Basra and was taken to the multinational Basra Palace base for treatment.
He was later flown by helicopter to a field hospital at Basra Air Station, but died from his injuries.
Major David Gell, British military spokesman in Basra, said a second soldier was wounded in the same incident but was not seriously ill and is expected to make a full recovery.
A total of 136 UK service personnel have died in Iraq since the start of hostilities and 105 of those deaths came in action.
Another British serviceman, Kingsman Danny John Wilson, 28, of the 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, was also killed in southern Iraq this week, ending a spell of four weeks without British fatalities.
