The former model and Sir Paul, 64, announced in May that they were ending their four-year marriage.

Mills McCartney's spokesman Phil Hall said: "She doesn't want to discuss it but it was because of ongoing security issues."

He said the chat with police related to death threats she had received before Christmas, and said that she had not received any more since.

Mr Hall said: "She doesn't know whether the people following her are from photographic agencies or something more sinister, in view of these death threats."

Last month her sister Fiona Mills made an internet appeal for an end to media "harassment" of her family, saying she was "deeply concerned" for the safety of Mills McCartney and her daughter Beatrice.

Reports continue to circulate that she will be a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing.

A source close to the ABC show told People magazine: "She has not signed yet, but talks are ongoing."

The show's cast will be announced on February 21. It is broadcast from March 19.
