Updated 10.52 Thu Jun 07 2007

Supermarket staff were amazed when a thirsty Prince William walked in and bought £850 worth of alcohol.

The prince, wearing a T-shirt, baseball cap and jeans, cleared the Weymouth branch of Asda out of Pimm's during his shopping trip.

"The check-out girl didn't actually recognise him and he packed his own shopping" - store manager Darren Rideout

He filled four trolleys with wines, spirits, beer and snacks at the Dorset store.

The prince is currently training to be a troop leader at nearby Bovington Army Camp.

Store manager Darren Rideout said: "He came in the store at 2.10pm with two bodyguards.

"He had four trolley loads of shopping which was mainly alcohol and snacks. He cleared us out of Pimm's."

He added: "A few people came up and spoke to him and he was laughing and joking with them.

"The check-out girl didn't actually recognise him and he packed his own shopping.

"They left at 3.15pm with the prince in a black Audi followed by two black Range Rovers."
