Burton receives Venice honour
Tim Burton has been honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.
The director was presented the award by Johnny Depp, who's starred in many of Burton's films, including Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The 49-year-old said: "This is very special to me. It's the best honour I've ever received and it just inspires me to keep going."
He even joked that the award was better than an Oscar, saying: "It's actually a lot more beautiful-looking than a bald, naked man."
Burton is the youngest recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award - and film festival organisers hailed him as a "visionary artist who puts fantasy and imagination at the centre of modern film-making".
He is currently filming new musical Sweeney Todd, in which Depp plays the demon barber of Fleet Street.
