Tottenham have confirmed they asked Martin Jol to stand down as manager and his last game in charge ended in a 2-1 defeat to Getafe in the Uefa Cup.

Jermain Defoe put Spurs ahead but Ruben De la Red equalised for the Spanish side before half-time.

Some reports suggest Sevilla coach Juande Ramos will take charge at the end of the season

During the break, reports surfaced claiming Jol had agreed a severance package but the Dutchman took his seat on the bench for the second half.

He seemed subdued and barely reacted when Nobrega Braulio scored the winning goal 20 minutes from time.

Tottenham are currently in the Premier League relegation zone after finishing fifth in the table in each of the last two seasons.

Some reports suggest Sevilla coach Juande Ramos will take charge of Spurs at the end of the season.

Jol took charge at White Hart Lane in November 2004, replacing Jacques Santini, who had only been in charge for five months.
