Hamilton appeal rejected

Lewis Hamilton has failed to overturn the 25-second penalty he was given at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Hamilton was punished for cutting a corner and he was demoted from first place to third.

The FIA ruled that Hamilton could not appeal against a drive-through penalty

He spent more than five hours at an FIA International Court of Appeal hearing in Paris this week hoping to convince five judges to award him victory and the world championship points he lost as a result.

But they ruled that he could not appeal against a drive-through penalty.

With four grands prix left this season, Hamilton remains one point clear of Felipe Massa at the top of the world championship.

If Hamilton had won his appeal, he would have increased his lead to seven points.
