Geldof launches TV channel

Live aid organiser Bob Geldof has launched the UK's first county council-funded broadband television channel.

The channel, Kent TV, is available on demand 24-hours-a-day and provides viewers with information about the county, as well as news.

Geldof, 55, who has lived in Kent for more than 20 years, co-founded Ten Alps plc, which won the contract to operate the online channel on behalf of Kent County Council.

Speaking at its launch at Maidstone Studios, the former lead singer of the Boomtown Rats said: "I think it's very smart of whoever came up with this on the council and it's fairly brave of it to go ahead and give this the thumbs-up."

A local authority spokesman said: "Kent TV is designed for anyone who wants to know about the county, wherever they are, and people can submit their own short films and have a say on issues that concern them."
