Almunia extends Arsenal contract
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has signed a contract extension and hopes to end his career with the club.
The Spaniard joined Arsenal from Celta Vigo in 2004 and he is enjoying his first long run in the team.
"I am very happy. I have extended my contract and I hope to be here for a long, long time.
"I talked to my wife and I said I did not want to go back to Spain to play. Hopefully I can finish my career here.
"Football can change your life in one second. At the start of the season, I was not playing. But football changed my life again and now I am one of the happiest men around."
Almunia's extended contract seems certain to spell the end of Jens Lehmann's Arsenal career.
The German was Arsene Wenger's first choice at the start of the season but lost his place to Almunia and his contract expires this summer.
