Flintoff hopeful of summer comeback

Andrew Flintoff has expressed hopes of making a return from injury in time to take in England's summer Test series against New Zealand and South Africa.

Flintoff, 30, who underwent a fourth operation on his troublesome left ankle in October has spent the winter months building up his fitness with rehabilitation periods in South Africa and the United States.

"I'm not making big statements about when I'll be playing again but, fingers crossed, I'll be OK for the summer" - Andrew Flintoff

The Lancashire all rounder said: "I'm not making big statements about when I'll be playing again but, fingers crossed, I'll be OK for the summer.

"I'm just taking things steadily. It's not worked the last three or four times I've tried to get back so I won't rush it this time."

England have maintained their ranking as the fifth best Test-playing nation as they commence their tour of New Zealand.

Australia, who until recently enjoyed a 16-match winning streak, remain way out in front.

But India who ended that run and drew the final Test in their recent series down under have moved past South Africa and Sri Lanka into second place.

South Africa, who earlier this month secured a 2-1 home series win over West Indies, dropped to fourth with Sri Lanka staying third.
