Carter, who wrote and directed the latest film, X-Files: I Want to Believe, answered questions about Mulder and Scully, and what they've been up to since the series ended in 2002.

The first X-Files movie was released in 1998, but German fan Marina revealed how she managed to stay in touch with the show.

She said: "We had discussions in the 'forum' on the internet, on YouTube and I watched all nine seasons one after the other."

"And we never gave up on a second movie," added friend Susanne.

X-Files: I Want to Believe opens in the UK on August 1.
