Mirren denies palace 'snub'

Dame Helen Mirren has admitted she was mortified by reports that claimed she was "too busy" to have dinner with the Queen.

The Oscar-winning actress said she tried to rearrange the shooting of her new film National Treasure: Book of Secrets to meet Her Majesty, but it was not possible.

The 61-year-old actress denied she snubbed the Queen's invitation.

She explained she was working on the film in the Black Hills of South Dakota with Nicolas Cage.

She said: "I am mortified. I just could not shut all that down to take three days off to go to Buckingham Palace."
